Burgers with Roasted Tomatoes, Pesto, and Mozzarella

Recipe

Making this when my family from Houston come down to visit us this weekend. Summer also means experimenting with my cooking.

Note to self

You can have all the passion in the world, but you can’t achieve much without the commitment and dedication to your passions.

I’ve had two weeks of absolute indulgence in me-time; having my alone time (borderline loner - LOL I don’t know how to interact with people anymore), being an extreme couch potato, inconsistent exercising, and lots and lots of thinking.

Now that I have my work schedule sorted out (side note: holy smokes, I’m getting scheduled like 4x a week, 4-8 hour shifts! = Spain money! hoooraaay!), I can finally get back on track with a consistent work+exercise+study+down-time schedule. I’ve indulged in that two-week period of no structure in my days whatsoever, and now it’s time to get back on track with things. I seriously can’t function long without having some sort of structure in my daily ongoings.

Radioactive - Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix (Imagine Dragons Cover)

(Om… this is so, so good. Really good.)

Within by Daft Punk.

Sometimes people forget that Daft Punk isn’t always up-beat energetic awesomeness. Sometimes they can go the mellow, longing and contemplative route and similar to basically everything they do, songs like that work beautifully. Just like “Instant Crush,” “Within” is melancholically majestic and by far one of my favorite tracks of Random Access Memories.

#Summer dress, summer breeze, great #icedcoffee, and new book. Life is good. #harukimurakami

DAMN MOSQUITO.

Freaking attacked my upper lip. And my cheek. And my forehead.

I look like freaking quasi moto!!!!!

When I find you, I will capture you and torture you. Tear your wings off, then submerge you in hot wax.

UGH.

Sad face. (Yes, I intentionally warped my face so you can’t see how bad my lip looks. Merp.)

Rant; thoughts on primary & secondary prevention (healthcare)

Maybe TMI for those not familiar with healthcare& whatnot, but this is my blog so…

My dad has these insect bite marks all over his body - my hunch is that they’re flea bites from the javelina that he skinned and butchered for his buddy. While cleaning and putting ointment on the bites, I discovered that this lesion (either a nodule or a keloid) that he’s always had has grown. Of course, the nursing-school-made-hypochondriac in me went into assessment mode and am strongly urging my dad to see a dermatologist to get that lesion (and the insect bites, but mainly the lesion) checked.

Stubborn as my dad is, he brushes it off and says it’s nothing. I am hell-bent on having it checked though. Call me paranoid, but better safe than sorry. God forbid, if it’s a cancerous lesion, I’d rather that be discovered sooner and quite literally nip it in the bud while it’s still in its earlier stages than stubbornly staying oblivious. If the roles were reversed, my dad would have me see my dermatologist first thing the next day. The most I can do for now is convince him to let me photograph his skin lesion to have a reference picture if in case it does change somehow.

You know, I just don’t get why so many people refuse to go get checked until it’s too late. I was talking to a friend once and he told me that he refuses to go to the doctor to have an annual physical examination done for fear of what he might find - so he’d rather go about blissfully unaware. I just don’t get it… it’s not like not going to your primary care provider for a physical will prevent you from contracting any condition or disease.

Ugh. I guess Sandy’s health promotion really is drilled into my head. I’m a firm believer in  taking preventative precautions for your health - especially monthly breast and testicular self exams, annual physical examinations, immunizations, and proper health education. Side note; something else that is of news that I really respect is Angelina Jolie’s decision to have a double mastectomy as a preventative measure since she had such a high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. I can only imagine how difficult of a decision that was, losing a body part that plays such a large role in gender identity and such. I think if I were in her position, I’d also have a double mastectomy in a heartbeat - my children and life would mean so much more to me than two modified sweat glands. Digressing, but I really do like how she went public with that in order for other women to become aware of the other less publicized options for them in regards to what they can do to lessen their chances of developing certain cancers.

Be done by 10, he says. Four hours later still stuck watching a guy install this ridiculously unnecessary alarm system. Why am I needed here again? I am restless and very irritated with my dad’s very overbearing manner right about now. You’d think the zetas were out to demolish my family with how carried away they’re getting with this ridiculous alarm system.
